Prolonging the magic
The Mariners (thanks in part to my prodding?) are now guaranteed a winning season. Statistically, they've now had a season that, on the whole, has been successful.
I don't have any Yuniesky Betancourt news to report. Ichiro did bat Yuniesky into a double play tonight. Sigh.
Also, the M's kept the Angels' magic number at 1, so they could conceivably still win the division.*
(*No way will this happen.)
And, looking at the schedule, I'm not sure that I'll go to another game this season. I could possibly make it to next Friday's game, or skip work to see the Indians (not that tempting). So I'm settling for a perfect 6-0, all games coming before the August collapse.
In other sports news
- The Huskies and Seahawks will each lose for the second consecutive weekend. They're both playing teams that were embarrassed (and gave up more than 40 points) last week, so they'll bounce back. The Huskies are still feeling too good about themselves, and while the Hawks loss was soul-crushing, it's not the kind of soul-crushing that'll get the team motivated.
- This weekend I'll start watching the Women's World Cup. Beat England, U.S.A.! If George Washington can do it, Hope Solo can. (Doesn't she sound like she should be an action hero?)
- Now's probably as good a time as any to mention that Aris, the Greek basketball team I followed so passionately back in 2005-2006, now (just two years later) has only one player from that team still on the roster.
